Head Honcho Hazel’s Homerun in Irish Double-Header

Waterford 2022: Hazel claims her second FOCAL title

A week after our blockbuster event in Galyway, our Irish extravaganza concluded with the evergreen Waterford tournament. Host Eoin had unfortunately contracted Covid-19 prior to the weekend, but did a fantastic job of hosting the event remotely with some assistance from Finola on site, as well as Fiona and Tom who joined him following their mammoth cycle trip all the way from Galway.

With the winner of the past three iterations of this event, Eddy, not playing this time, we were guaranteed a different winner. Indeed, the past two iterations of this event had seen the same result in the final, with Eddy defeating Brendan both times.

As it turns out, Eddy’s successor as Waterford champ was also his predecessor, as Hazel claimed her second FOCAL event win, her first being the 2018 Waterford title. Her opponent in the final was Gerry, who beat last year’s runner-up Brendan to second place. The final was livestreamed on YouTube, and you can watch it back below:

It should come as no surprise that host Eoin, who managed to deliver his Waterford event TWICE in the long interim between UK events during the pandemic this season, was able to overcome the adversity of his Covid diagnosis to put on another fantastic day for our eventgoers, but it is a magnificent achievement that highlights his dedication to our community, for which we are all very grateful.
