Lincoln 2016

The 12th annual Countdown in Lincoln (CoLin) took place over the weekend of 30/31 January, hosted by Ben Wilson. For the third year running, the main event on the Saturday was supplemented by the aptly-named Hangover event on the Sunday.

From Ben:

46 people showed up for the twelfth annual Countdown in Lincoln ‘COLIN’ event on the 30th of January. As always, everybody played six games to determine which two players would compete in the showcase final, and the two wordsmiths who made it through were the two top-seeded players on the day: Dylan Taylor and Jack Worsley.

At 58-56 going into the last conundrum, the scramble was MDOLINXII…

After a tense game that went right to the wire, it was Jack who emerged victorious and put his name on the COLIN spoon alongside the other seven previous winners.

The following day, after an energetic ‘afterparty’ at the Fox & Hounds pub on Newark Road, which has been the second home of COLIN for the last six years, 30 players descended upon the South Hykeham Village Hall for the third annual COLIN ‘hangover’, the companion to the COLIN main event. Once again, Jack Worsley won all of his games to reach the final, this time playing COLIN X runner-up Zarte Siempre. In the end, it was Jack who went away victorious- albeit with a broken trophy after dropping it less than a minute after it was awarded to him!

Once again, COLIN kicked off the Countdown event year with a bang. Links to photos from the event can be found here- and here-

Here’s to a great year of Countdowning!
