Mark says… “Blackpool is the perfect location to make a full weekend of a FOCAL event! There are many hotels to choose from, as well as the Pleasure Beach, the Illuminations, and much more to see and do before and after the gig.
A direct train service between London and Blackpool began in April, with journey times at under three hours, so there’s really no excuse!
From Blackpool North station, the Working Men’s Club is a short ride on either the tram or bus. Check www.blackpooltransport.com for journey times (search Blackpool North Station to postcode FY5 1BN).
You can buy a 1-hour ticket on your phone for £3.20 or a 24-hour ticket for £5.25, valid from the time at which you activate it on your phone.
How the tournament works
Blackpool will be a Lincoln-style event, where everyone plays to their own selections. (For more details, see ‘How do you play?’ here.)
A buffet lunch is included in the entry fee. If anyone has any special dietary needs then please let us know — all will be catered for, but will need to know in advance. The beer prices are very good here too – as an example, a pint of Strongbow Draught Cider is £2.51 (at time of writing).
We also will hold a 15-to-1 quiz during the lunch break, with 15 of the contestants being drawn out at random.
To enter, send a payment of £12 via Paypal to https://paypal.me/markmills333/12 – please select pay family or friends option when making payments via PayPal, as these are contributions to help cover my own costs of organising the event.
More information will become available over the new couple of months, including accommodation recommendations. In the meantime, please feel free to contact FOCAL with any questions re: the event.
For now, stay tuned – I hope we see many of you next October!
