Getting There

The venue is in Boleybeg, Galway and is not far from Rahoon Road. The exact address will be given privately to attendees after sign-up.

The 410 or 411 bus from central Galway will get you nearby.

If arriving by car, there is limited parking on site (room for 5-6 cars, contact Paul to check if space is available), or you should be able to find somewhere to park at the roadside nearby.

Train services to Galway run from Dublin, as does the GoBus coach. You can also get a bus from Knock or Shannon airports.

For those interested in a more scenic route, Countdown octochamp Fiona Titcombe is planning a bicycle trip from Galway to Waterford in time for the event there the following week. Get in touch with us for more details.

Fancy a pre-event parkrun?

The local parkrun is Knocknacarra, which is located at the Community Centre by Cappagh Park. This is only a short trip (half a parkrun distance!) down Cappagh Road from the event venue. English visitors are advised to remember that in Ireland parkruns start at 9:30am!

How does it work?

The format will be Bristol style, and there will hopefully be time for as many as 8 games before the Grand Final, which will be broadcast live as a ZoomDown special.

What’s happening in the evening?

On Friday afternoon/evening, we will meet up in Galway city centre for dinner followed by a few pints and some traditional Irish music. If weather permits, there could also be the opportunity for a pre-dinner dip in the ocean at Salthill beach, so bring your togs!

We’ll be ordering a food delivery on the day so please bring a few Euros to help split the bill if you want to order anything. After the event on Saturday will be a house party with live music and karaoke and various sporting games such as pool, table tennis, air hockey, and darts.

Staying over?

There are many hotels in Galway which should all be convenient for eventgoers, or cheaper options are hostels in the city centre. Peruse a selection of them here.

For those wanting to make a holiday of it, we also have our Waterford event the following Saturday. Two great FOCAL events would be a perfect way to bookend a weeklong Irish holiday for those making the trip from overseas.

For any further details, please feel free to get in touch and ask.

Attending or organising a FOCAL event is subject to the FOCAL Code of Conduct.
