Our regular summertime East Anglia event will take place this year in Peterborough on Saturday 6th June, hosted once again by Mike Brown.

Like his events for the last two years in Cambridge and before that in King’s Lynn, this will be a Lincoln format tournament — three-to-a-table with sets of the board game, where everyone plays six 9-round games, through three stages of competition. Then to round the day off, we will have a 15-round Grand Final match between the top two players.

This event will take place at the Fletton Centre in the south of Peterborough (http://www.lifechurch.eu, Fletton Avenue, postcode PE2 8BY). Click on the image below to bring up its location on Google Maps.

Facilities
The venue has free wi-fi and a large screen which will be used to show the latest scores throughout the day.

We will have access to a kitchen — tea, coffee and soft drinks will be provided, as well as a few homemade cakes. Lunch is not provided, but there are a couple of general stores and a café nearby.

Parking and travel
Unfortunately, there is no space for cars at the venue. Parking may be available on local side streets although these could be busy on a Saturday, so we suggest parking in the city centre (perhaps at the Queensgate Shopping Centre, but check time restrictions) and either walking or taking the bus down. It’s less than three quarters of a mile from the city centre to the venue.

Buses
Stagecoach operates service Citi3 up to every 10 minutes along Fletton Avenue and adult single fares start at £1.50. This departs from stand 5 in the Bus Station at Queensgate — please ensure your bus is heading towards Park Farm, not Bretton!
Check stagecoachbus.com/timetables and stagecoachbus.com/tickets.

Trains
Peterborough has good transport links: it’s on the East Coast main line and is just 45 minutes from King’s Cross, with links from Norwich, Leicester and East Midlands Airport too. Look out for discounted weekend rail tickets in advance! From the station, the venue is around a 30-minute walk away if you’re the little man on Google. Alternatively, walk through to the nearby Queensgate Bus Station and catch a bus as above.

Staying over?
Peterborough has several hotel options including a Travelodge, Premier Inn as well as a Park Inn which is well situated for the station. There’s also an independent hotel close to the venue (The Queensgate).

After the tournament?
There isn’t anything formally planned for post-event food and drink, but the most likely post-event venue is the Draper’s Arms in Cowgate, which is a Wetherspoon’s and is just a few minutes’ walk from both the bus and train stations.

How much to enter?
The entrance fee for the day is only £10, which can be transferred to Mike Brown through PayPal at mike@mjbrown.demon.co.uk. Those of you who would prefer to pay by cheque can do so — snail-mail address available on request through the same email.

The timetable for the day is likely to be:
